Mazda Concludes the RX-8 Run with Special-Edition Spirit R

Slated for a short but sweet run, the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R will be the last special edition of the automaker's rotary sports model. Mazda has set a maximum of 1,000 units for production and will release the Spirit R edition in Japan, starting November of this year. While the automaker has scheduled creation of the vehicle to end June of 2012, Flight-Line Mazda expects the RX-8 Spirit R will make the most of its time in the market.

Aluminum Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica, and Crystal White Pear Mica exterior color options combined with bronze alloy wheels give the Mazda model an initial look of luxury. Slip inside, however, and you'll find yourself cushioned in specially-made sporty SPIRIT R bucket seats from RECARO.

Performance-wise, not much has changed for the last RX-8 model. However, Mazda's curtain and front side SRS airbag system has evolved from a factory-installed option to a standard feature. Prices for the Spirit R begin at $40,675 with a six-speed automatic transmission and bump up a few notches to $42,400 with a six-speed manual transmission.

"Although RX-8 production is ending, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda and Mazda remains committed to its ongoing development,"1 says Mazda president and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi.Part of the automaker's "ongoing development" includes exciting new technologies such as the introduction of super-strength steel in next year's Mazda CX-5 compact crossover. The use of this 1,800 MPA steel allows for thinner vehicle parts and therefore hefty savings in vehicle weight.

Unfortunately, the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R won't be available at Flight-Line Mazda - 1350 E 32nd St Yuma, AZ - or anywhere else in the U.S. However, we do invite you to test drive any of our exciting new Mazda models available to you today.
